Solid Info

On June 3, Mexico announced the election of a new President, Claudia Sheinbaum. The winner of the election race was a woman of Jewish origin, a scientist, and an expert on climate change.

In Mexico, family ties and religious affiliation are extremely important (most Mexicans are Catholics). The election of a non-systemic politician and a woman to the highest office in the country is extremely rare in the region.

Claudia Sheinbaum is a representative of the ruling Morena party. In the presidential election, her candidacy was supported by an alliance of opposition parties, including the traditional Institutional Revolutionary Party and the center-right National Action Party.
