Russia and China launch campaigns to influence Germany's 2025 parliamentary elections: 'Sahra Wagenknecht's Alliance' as a tool for shaping an anti-American agenda

Solid Info
Local parliamentary elections will be held in Saxony and Thuringia on September 1, 2024, an important marker that will determine the dynamics of the parliamentary elections in Germany in 2025.
In all three German states, the right-wing populist party Alternative for Germany (AfD) is leading the polls, with 32% support in Saxony and 30% in Thuringia. According to national polls, AfD has 18%.
At the same time, the forecast for the results of the new left-wing populist party "Sahra Wagenknecht Union" (BSW) is unexpected for local elections - on the eve of the elections in Thuringia, it has 20% support, and in Saxony - 15%. In comparison, its national support is 9%.
Despite their seemingly polar positions on the political spectrum, the AfD and BSW coincide on key foreign policy issues, such as relations with Russia, the sanctions regime against autocratic countries, assistance to Ukraine, and the need to comply with its NATO alliance commitments, up to and including the issue of the need to withdraw US troops from German soil.
