The U.S. and EU Join Forces to Close a Critical Gap in Rare Earth Element Processing

In April 2026, the European Union and the United States stepped up work on a deal about critical minerals. On April 10, 2026, Bloomberg reported that Washington and Brussels were getting closer to a joint framework for extracting and supplying these materials. 

The goal is to reduce reliance on Chinese supply chains as part of broader economic and security efforts.

The emerging U.S.–EU agreement on critical minerals is being structured as an instrument to redistribute control over global supply chains, with a core objective of reducing China’s role in processing and price-setting mechanisms.
