On March 17, 2026, during Democratic Party primaries in Illinois, the pro-Israel lobby AIPAC and its affiliated entities spent $22 million to support aligned candidates across four congressional districts. In two of those districts, AIPAC-backed candidates secured only around 20% of the vote. 

The mechanism that, during the 2022 and 2024 election cycles, had reliably converted pro-Israel lobbying expenditures into electoral outcomes—and effectively shaped the composition of both parties in Congress—demonstrated systemic dysfunction for the first time.
