Solid Info

On May 27, 2025, former Australian Prime Minister and chairman of the advisory board of the Australian Space Centre (SCA) Scott Morrison called for the creation of a new "pillar" within the AUKUS coalition to ensure the dominance of democratic allies in space.

According to his plan, this would become the third strategic direction of AUKUS, complementing the existing "nuclear pillar" aimed at deploying a nuclear submarine fleet in the Indo-Pacific, and the "technological pillar" designed to guarantee the superiority of the U.S. and its allies in advanced military technologies — particularly chips, drones, artificial intelligence, and quantum solutions.

The practical implementation of the "space pillar" of AUKUS would involve the development of rocket, satellite, telescopic, and other related technologies, as well as the construction of space infrastructure near the equator in the Indo-Pacific (specifically on the Cape York Peninsula within the activities of the SCA).
