Appointment of a new U.S. ambassador to India: Washington lays the groundwork to anchor New Delhi in the democratic camp

Solid Info
From October 9 to October 14, 2025, the U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia and U.S. Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, conducted a visit to India.
Gor, who was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as ambassador on October 7, 2025, held meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
The visit of the new U.S. ambassador to New Delhi marked the beginning of restoring direct political communication between the United States and India following a period of strained relations, which was externally manifested by the imposition of U.S. tariffs on several categories of Indian exports in August 2025.
The crisis in U.S.-India interactions, which began in the second quarter of 2025, was driven by both sides’ attempts to renegotiate the terms of economic and technological cooperation.
