The U.S.-Indonesia Defense Pact: A Step Toward Transforming Military Logistics Architecture in the Indo-Pacific

On April 13, 2026, U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin held talks in Washington on expanding strategic cooperation between the two countries. The outcome was a new Major Defense Cooperation Partnership structured around a three-tier expansion of bilateral relations.

The agreement includes closer military-technology cooperation, joint training programs, and more exercises across the Indo-Pacific.

It also covers the joint development of asymmetric capabilities and the use of advanced defense technologies in maritime and underwater areas. In addition, it supports the development of autonomous systems such as drones, as well as the expansion of maintenance and repair networks for military equipment.
