On April 17, the US Senate rejected both articles of impeachment against Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, in which the House of Representatives accused him of failing to comply with US immigration laws and of "violating the public trust" by providing false information to Congress.

The U.S. Senate's decision ended the more than two-month impeachment trial and marked a legal victory for the Democratic congressmen.

On the other hand, by launching impeachment proceedings against a member of the US Cabinet, the Republicans have begun to implement a well-thought-out political strategy to strengthen federal officials' loyalty to Donald Trump on the eve of the election while distancing them from the White House.
