On November 3, 2025, President Trump announced that he had directed the Pentagon to plan a military operation in Nigeria due to escalating attacks on Christians by Islamist groups Boko Haram and ISWAP, which have caused over 52,000 deaths and displaced about 2.5 million people. The Sahel has emerged as the global epicenter of terrorism, representing 51% of worldwide terrorism-related fatalities.

The growing terrorist threat in the Sahel region creates new opportunities for the United States, which over the past few months has consistently and purposefully taken control of vulnerable strongholds of the autocratic axis in strategically important regions of the Global South.

In the spring of 2025, the White House significantly weakened the influence of Beijing and Moscow in the Middle East, and since late summer, it has consistently implemented plans to neutralize pro-authoritarian left-wing regimes in Latin America.
