On July 12–13, 2025, Donald Trump announced plans to impose 30% tariffs on imports, sending a second batch of “warning letters” to eight major Global South economies Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, Vietnam, Indonesia, Nigeria, Thailand, and Turkey.

Despite reaching a trade agreement directly with China, Washington continues to implement its strategy of shock tactics to dismantle China-centric “managed multipolarity,” sharply increasing the cost of maintaining any economic ties with the People’s Republic of China.
