$10 billion railway project for shuttles between Mexico and the U.S: Washington reshapes trade supply chains with Mexico to block Chinese bypass routes

Solid Info
On June 9, 2025, the Austin-based startup Green Corridors received approval from the Trump administration to construct a 165-mile "railway" valued at $10 billion, which will use autonomous hybrid shuttles to transport goods between Mexico and Texas, minimizing human involvement and accelerating cargo processing.
The new transportation system, sanctioned by Trump, is being developed as part of a policy to control trade supply chains. It enables the United States to take initial steps toward securing a logistical route within the framework of the USMCA agreement, which was established during Trump’s first term.
Washington is creating a tool to counter China — adding infrastructure mechanisms to tariffs and quotas that will service only those supply chains aligned with the geopolitical and geoeconomic ambitions of the new Trump administration.
