At the end of January 2024, a Hong Kong court ruled to liquidate China Evergrande Group, the largest Chinese developer. The court ordered Evergrande to sell its assets to repay its $300 billion debt.

The Chinese developer's assets amount to approximately $250 billion, which puts some of the company's investors at risk of not receiving repayment of their loans.

The company's significant debt arose from its aggressive expansion policy to become one of the largest companies in China. The company has been in a difficult economic situation for several years, and its shares have lost 99% of their value over the past three years.
