On April 17, 2025, Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman Al Saud visited Tehran, the first visit of a representative of the Saudi family to Iran in more than 20 years.

A member of the royal family was received by the highest Iranian leadership, with talks held at the level of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, President Masoud Pezeshkian, and Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Bagheri.

The Saudi prince’s visit to Iran in the context of the United States’ policy of “controlled toughness” was part of a general strategy of pressure on Tehran aimed at forcing the ayatollahs’ regime to conclude an agreement on the nuclear program and further appeasement of Iran.
