US-Morocco cooperation gives democratic allies strategic foothold in North Africa

On April 8, the U.S. Department of State published a fact sheet identifying Morocco as a vital U.S. partner in the North Africa and Middle East region.

The State Department’s statement came shortly after the US intelligence agency’s statement that an Iranian attack on Israel was imminent on the night of April 14.

For the United States, Rabat creates a sphere of special interests on the entire African continent, as evidenced by the longstanding defense cooperation between the states (the United States designated Morocco as a major non-NATO ally in 2004).
