Purges at the Republican National Committee as part of a more global process of reshaping the party’s core political elites and establishment

On March 8, former President Donald Trump launched a renewal of the Republican National Committee (RNC). Federal law defines the national committee as the organization responsible for the party’s day-to-day operations at the national level, so controlling the national committee effectively means controlling the entire party’s daily operations.

Considering this, when he reshaped the leadership of the National Republican Committee, Trump appointed people from his inner circle to key positions.

Thus, Michael Wadley, a close ally of Donald Trump, and Lara Trump, the wife of the former President’s son, were elected chairman and co-chairman of the RNC. Chris LaSevita, one of the main advisers to the Trump campaign, was appointed the committee’s chief operating officer.
