On July 19, 2025, the Democratic Party primary for the mayor of Minneapolis was held, with Minnesota State Senator and progressive Omar Fateh selected as the nominee.

Given that Minneapolis has been led by Democratic politicians for over 40 years, Fateh’s chances of success in the November 2025 mayoral election are significantly increased.
