Investigation into Chinese telecom companies: Washington prepares program to develop US telecom sector and eliminate Chinese spy infrastructure

On June 25, it became known that the Biden administration was investigating China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom’s use of access to U.S. data and its transfer to the Chinese government.

Even though the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has revoked Chinese companies’ licenses to provide telephone and broadband services over the past five years, Chinese companies have a significant presence in the US telecom market.

China Telecom alone has at least 8 American access points (PoPs) at Internet data exchange points, allowing its networks to exchange traffic routing information.
