Democracies expand presence in Taiwan: bolstering strategic pressure on China

On May 7, 2025, Xi Jinping published an article in Rossiyskaya Gazeta (the Kremlin’s print organ), dedicated, in particular, to the 80th anniversary of the end of Japanese rule in Taiwan.

Within this framework, he stated that the upcoming “reunification” with Taiwan is an “inevitable historical trend” despite opposition from the Taiwanese government and democratic states.

According to Xi Jinping, Beijing will take “all necessary measures” to achieve its expansionist goals, including war and occupation. He also emphasized that Russia would provide “firm support” for China’s further steps to conquer Taiwan.
