Chinese People’s Liberation Army reform outlines the time frame for the beginning of a possible global military conflict

On April 19, 2024, Xi Jinping decided to launch the most ambitious structural reform of the PLA in the last decade.

The PLA Strategic Support Force (2016-2024), responsible for electronic (technical) intelligence and warfare, psychological and cyber operations, and space warfare, was disbanded on his instructions. They were replaced by three independent PLA units with broad powers: Space Force, Cyber Force, and Information Support Force.

They will operate autonomously from the four branches of the Chinese military (land, air, naval, and missile) and be subordinate to China’s supreme military body, the Communist Party Central Military Commission, headed by Xi Jinping.
