Argentine President Javier Milei plans to visit China in January 2025 to participate in the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States summit.

During his presidential campaign, Milei expressed an ideological rejection of China, characterizing it as a “bloody dictatorship” and promising to prioritize relations with Western allies.

In April 2024, Defense Minister Luis Petri announced Argentina’s intention to join NATO as a global partner. Argentina’s approach to countering autocratic regimes in Latin America has also significantly transformed under President Javier Milei.
