American social media platforms adjust content moderation approaches: the incoming Administration reevaluates its relationship with social media

On January 7, 2025, the American holding company Meta Platforms, the parent organization of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, announced changes to its content moderation policy.

The planned adjustments will primarily concern eliminating the fact-checking program, which, according to the company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg, will help restore freedom of speech and simplify policies on Internet platforms controlled by Meta.
