American security infrastructure in Indopacific is under threat as China began to strengthen its position in Thailand

On May 28, 2024, the Thai government announced its decision to join BRICS, an international platform that China considers the main alternative to the G20 and G7.

It was reported that Thai government representatives would participate in the BRICS summit scheduled for October 22-24, 2024, in Kazan, Russia (chaired by Putin).

If the procedure is completed, Thailand will become the only US treaty defense ally in the Pacific to join BRICS. Indonesia and Vietnam have also applied to join the pro-authoritarian bloc among the ASEAN member states.
