After Blinken’s visit, Washington presses Beijing to finalize agreements with China’s leaders

From April 24-26, 2024, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken visited China on a visit that followed President Biden and Xi’s conversation about establishing clearer “rules of competition.” During his visit, Secretary Blinken held closed-door 5-hour talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and, subsequently, with Xi Jinping himself.

The tactical objective of the United States during the current negotiations was to stop Chinese support for regional military conflicts in Ukraine, the Middle East, and the South China Sea, as well as to reduce tensions along the Taiwan Strait.
