On April 25, 2025, the son of the American president, Donald Trump Jr. called on the Hungarian government to abandon strategic economic cooperation with China in favor of the United States.
The announcement was made at a private meeting in Budapest as part of his Trump Business Vision 2025 Eastern European tour, shortly after talks with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
The official position of the presidential team is that the United States does not intend to rely on states that will favor Beijing over Washington in the tariff negotiations.
