Second visit by Lee Jae-myung to the United States: risk of derailing the “big deal” and divisions at the APEC summit in Gyeongju

From September 22 to 26, 2025, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung made his second visit in office to the United States to participate in the opening of the 80th UN General Assembly.

During this visit, he held talks with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, a bipartisan group from the US Congress, as well as representatives of major American corporations.

In addition, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Lee Jae-myung held talks with the leaders of France, Italy, the Czech Republic, and Poland, but no meeting with the US President took place.
