From October 27 to 29, 2025, President Donald Trump made his first official visit to Japan during his current term for negotiations with the new Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi; he last visited Tokyo in 2019.
Following the visit, both leaders stated their intention to begin a “golden era” in U.S.-Japanese relations, which will include increasing military, political, and economic coordination.
In particular, Prime Minister Takaichi confirmed the readiness of the Japanese government to fulfill the terms of the “grand deal” with the United States, investing $550 billion in the American economy by January 2029.
