At the beginning of March 2026, the U.S. Congress was informed of a cyberattack on the FBI’s internal networks, carried out with the authorization of the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
The message to American lawmakers stated that the intrusion targeted the federal system for tracking criminal suspects (Digital Collection System Network).
PRC agents penetrated the network of a compromised FBI internet service provider and stole metadata of surveillance targets, including call logs, IP addresses, and routing data.
