MAGA seeks to block any border security deal, torpedoing Democratic ratings ahead of 2024 elections

On Wednesday, January 17, congressional leaders met with Biden at the White House. According to White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, President Joe Biden called the meeting to emphasize the “urgent need” to pass additional funding for Ukraine.

On the eve of a meeting at the White House with congressional leaders, Speaker Mike Johnson continued to push the House’s tough border plan, questioning Senate negotiations that would not meet the demands of its members.

As a result of the talks, Biden agreed to tighten immigration policy to assist Ukraine, but even these concessions did not convince some Republicans to support the bill.
