On January 26, 2024, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Bangkok to discuss China’s active involvement in resolving the military conflict in the Red Sea.
They discussed the ongoing Russian war in Ukraine, North Korea’s increased aggression around the Korean Peninsula, China’s provocations in the South China Sea, the crisis in Myanmar, and the aftermath of the general election in Taiwan.
The talks also resulted in an agreement to hold a telephone conversation between President Biden and Xi Jinping “in the near future.”
