On March 5, 2024, Super Tuesday, which is the most important event during the US primaries, took place. Fifteen states and one U.S. territory elected delegates to the National Conventions of the Republican and Democratic Parties, which will officially approve the candidates from the two key U.S. parties for the November 5 presidential election.
The Republican and Democratic primaries showed that both key US parties are not homogeneous.
Despite Donald Trump’s uncontested victory in the Republican primaries, which garnered the support of about 70% of the party’s supporters, the Republican Party could not fully unite around his conservative positions in this political cycle. About a quarter of the party’s supporters supported the party minority, which Nikki Haley represents.
