Trump adds another lever of pressure on Russia to separate it from the Chinese dynamic

On April 12, 2024, after a meeting with House Speaker Mike Johnson, Donald Trump emphasized that he had no objection to approving aid to Ukraine.

As before, Trump has maintained that it is impossible to provide Ukraine with American funds on a grant basis. The former US president has now allowed Ukraine to receive a loan, the terms of which are still unknown. His initiative reflects the discussion within the Republicans and has already moved into the practical legislative plane.

On April 15, Speaker Mike Johnson, opting for strategically segmenting foreign aid into four pieces of legislation, proposed a separate bill to provide aid to Ukraine.
