On May 23, Kenyan President William Ruto arrives in Washington, D.C., the first visit by an African leader to the White House in 16 years.
During this visit, Joe Biden announced that he intends to declare Kenya a major non-NATO ally of the United States, subject to congressional approval, making it the first sub-Saharan African country to receive this recognition.
During the meeting, the leaders of Kenya and the United States also launched the Nairobi Washington Vision, which became the basis for a number of agreements between the U.S. and Kenyan governments in the areas of security, infrastructure, technology, and education.
