The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for 2025 highlights changing U.S. defense policy priorities and focuses on the Pacific theater of global conflict

On June 14, 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the annual defense bill for 2025 (National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)).

The bill, supported by the Republican-majority House of Representatives, included a number of conservative amendments that were unacceptable to the Democratic Party. Thus, its passage was secured by a vote mostly from the Republicans, as only six representatives of the Democratic minority supported the vote.

The Republicans seized the initiative from the Democrats in reforming defense policy, resorting to “driving a wedge.” The Republicans have included a safeguard in the bill against Democratic congressmen voting in favor of the bill, which would make reforming the US defense sector a bipartisan issue.
