On June 15-16, 2024, the inaugural Peace Summit, organized by Ukraine and Switzerland with the assistance of the United States, was held in Burgenstock, Switzerland, and brought together high-level representatives from 92 countries.
The summit aimed to achieve multilevel goals: to find common ground between the alliance of democracies and representatives of the Global South before organizing further negotiations and to intensify Ukraine’s political presence in regions under increased pressure from China.
The fact that representatives of a wide range of countries attended the Peace Summit, in sharp contrast to China’s conspicuous absence, forced political elites in most countries to recognize China’s growing propensity to oppose peacekeeping efforts by democratic states.
