Russia and China launch campaigns to influence Germany’s 2025 parliamentary elections: ‘Sahra Wagenknecht’s Alliance’ as a tool for shaping an anti-American agenda

Local parliamentary elections will be held in Saxony and Thuringia on September 1, 2024, an important marker that will determine the dynamics of the parliamentary elections in Germany in 2025.

In all three German states, the right-wing populist party Alternative for Germany (AfD) is leading the polls, with 32% support in Saxony and 30% in Thuringia. According to national polls, AfD has 18%.

At the same time, the forecast for the results of the new left-wing populist party “Sahra Wagenknecht Union” (BSW) is unexpected for local elections – on the eve of the elections in Thuringia, it has 20% support, and in Saxony – 15%. In comparison, its national support is 9%.
