South Korea forms ‘nuclear alliance’ with Czech Republic to support U.S. foreign policy goals South Korea

Strategic talks between South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and the Czech government were held in Prague from September 19 to 21, 2024.

They included meetings with President Petr Pavel, Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Speaker Marketa Pekárová-Adamová, and representatives of large businesses from the Czech Republic and South Korea. Among the latter were the heads of SK Group, Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor Group, LG, and POSCO Group.

As a result of the talks, Seoul and Prague agreed to establish a full nuclear energy cycle “nuclear alliance” that envisages the continuation of South Korea’s Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power’s modernization of the Dukovany nuclear power plant, joint development of relevant technologies, and deepening cooperation in the field of energy security.
