Democrats develop the ‘defining environments’ concept and compete to gain institutional control over the AI sector

On August 30, 2024, the artificial intelligence research laboratory OpenAI appointed Chris Lehane, a Democratic Party consultant and communications specialist, former spokesman and lawyer for the Clinton administration, as its Vice President for Global Policy.

By appointing a “crisis manager” with no background in AI or high tech but who was closely associated with the presidential administration in the 1990s, OpenAI’s campaign leaders made it clear that Lehane’s tasks in the campaign differed from purely technological ones.

The fact that a Democratic Party emissary has been given an administrative portfolio in a leading artificial intelligence company proves that the Democratic establishment has turned its attention to gaining more influence in the information technology sector.
