On December 15, 2024, Akie Abe, the widow of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, held a private meeting with Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate.
These talks, held under the pretext of a private dinner with Melania Trump and Elon Musk, were the first informal contact between the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan (LDP) and the newly elected US President after the election.
It is believed that one of the main organizers of the meeting was Taro Aso, the LDP’s Supreme Counselor, who recently took over de facto control of part of Abe’s faction in the Japanese parliament.
