On December 19, 2024, Putin held his annual press conference, “Results of the Year,” which was dedicated to building up allied relations between China and Russia.
As part of it, he publicly stated for the first time that the Kremlin “almost always coordinates” its foreign policy actions with the Chinese leadership. He also emphasized that none of Russia’s international decisions “contradict” the interests of Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist Party.
In the end, using as arguments the existence of 600 Sino-Russian investment projects and more than $220 billion in trade turnover in 2024, Putin stated that with Beijing’s assistance, “Russia’s future will be secured.”
