Donald Trump’s future Administration aims to strengthen its influence in the Horn of Africa, reducing China’s impact

On December 19, Bashir Goth, Somaliland’s representative to the United States, announced that the region was ready to host an American military base in the port of Berbera. In exchange, Somaliland is asking for official recognition of its sovereignty from the administration of President Donald Trump.

This proposal’s main goal is to prevent a war between two regional coalitions: Eritrea, Egypt, and Somalia on the one hand and Ethiopia and Somaliland on the other.

The potential conflict will also involve external forces – Turkey on the side of Somalia and Saudi Arabia on the side of Somaliland, which will also be supported by the UAE.
