Washington, D.C., is a unique political fulcrum for mainstream American elites and, until recently, was the pivotal element of the US political system.

Even though the District of Columbia is home to predominantly Democratic voters — more than 90%, as the 2024 election results showed — it is not considered a full-fledged state and does not decisively influence the course of American elections.

Its significance is based on a deeply entrenched federal bureaucracy and employees of the surrounding institutions, or as they are also called, the “deep state,” which professes progressive values.
