Google supported and funded the Humboldt submarine route project launched in January 2024. It connects Chile to Australia via French Polynesia.

The project is expected to be completed in 2026. A cable connection across the Pacific Ocean will increase the region's reach, reliability, and resilience in communications and the Internet.

The U.S. government plans to invest $15 million through the Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy (CDP) to create reliable Internet connectivity in Pacific Island countries.

In 2023, the United States, with Japan and Australia participating, has already allocated $95 million in investments to build a 2,250-kilometer-long submarine cable that will connect island countries in Micronesia.
